More Than Just Talk is a Limited Liability Company established to provide consultation services in Speech-Language Pathology, Community Education, and Wellness with a health literacy initiative. We offer a variety of programs, workshops, presentations, and more for professionals, individuals, and families.

Meet the Owner
TIFFANY C. GURLEY NETTLES, PH.D. CCC-SLP
Dr. Tiffany C. Gurley Nettles is a distinguished scholar, educator, and clinical practitioner in the field of Speech-Language Pathology and Health Psychology. With over two decades of experience in academic and clinical settings, Dr. Gurley Nettles is dedicated to advancing the understanding of communication disorders and enhancing the quality of care for individuals with communication and swallowing challenges.
Dr. Gurley Nettles earned her bachelor’s degree in public administration from Virginia State University, her Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of the District of Columbia. She earned her Doctorate in Psychology from Walden University, where her research focused on the intersection of Post-Stroke Depression and the Family Caregiver within Dyadic Experience. Her groundbreaking work has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, and she has presented at numerous conferences, sharing her insights on effective intervention strategies and the importance of culturally responsive practice in speechlanguage pathology, post-stroke depression and the role of speech-language pathologists, and return to learning post-concussion.
As the Program Director and Assistant Professor at the University of the District of Columbia, Dr. Gurley Nettles is enthusiastic about mentoring the next generation of speech-language pathologists. She teaches a variety of courses, including Medical Speech-Language Pathology, clinical methods, Aphasia, Neuroanatomy of the Speech and Hearing Mechanism, and Thesis Seminar. Her commitment to student success is evident in her hands-on, interactive method of teaching, where she emphasizes experiential learning and critical thinking while infusing a mindfulness-based approach.
In addition to her academic responsibilities, Dr. Gurley Nettles maintains an active clinical practice, providing assessment and intervention services for individuals and their families with diverse communication needs brain health and intervention, cognitive aging and more. Her clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of disorders including neurogenic communication disorders, traumatic brain injury, mild traumatic brain injury, and neurocognitive intervention. She is an invited speaker on interdisciplinary practices in the allied health fields, concussion awareness, the impact on concussion in the classroom, family caregiver stress and wellness, and brain health. She has additional research interests and current projects in the areas of culturally responsive clinical supervision, immersive technology in Speech-Language Pathology education, immersive technology in neurocognitive rehabilitation, and health trauma intervention.
Dr. Gurley Nettles is also involved in community outreach initiatives. As the founder of More Than Just Talk, LLC, she advocates for increased awareness and wellness resources for individuals with communication disorders and their families. She collaborates with local organizations and schools to provide workshops and training sessions aimed at empowering families and educators.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Gurley Nettles is known for her approachable demeanor and dedication to fostering inclusive and collaborative environments. She believes in the power of communication to transform lives and is committed to making a positive impact in both her academic and clinical endeavors. When she is not teaching or working with clients, Dr. Gurley Nettles enjoys music, traveling, hiking, tasty food, and spending time with her family and friends. Her holistic approach to life and work reflects her belief in the interconnectedness of personal and professional growth, making her a respected leader in the community, academia and in the field of Speech-Language Pathology.
